On May 4th, the Florida Times-Union ran an editorial strongly supporting the proposed Human Rights Ordinance legislation that will protect lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people from discrimination in the workplace and housing. The article articulates the OneJax position on this issue and we are grateful for the permission granted to us to reproduce it here. In addition, you can link to a supporting audio editorial posted on jacksonville.com from this reprint. We encourage you to contact the City Council to express your feelings about this. You can find the contact information for all City Council members here.
This community-wide initiative works to identify and dismantle structural racism in Jacksonville. OneJax helped establish Project Breakthrough in 2007 and continues to serve as one of its lead agencies, along with the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission, The Community Foundation and The Aspen Institute. Many business, media and education leaders have participated in extensive training sessions, that provide participants with a profound understanding of the historical and future effects of structural racism in the community, and strategies for dismantling its debilitating impact.
