For more than a decade, OneJax has been hosting Civil Discourse conversations and holding Community Suppers periodically throughout the year to bring people together. Attendees come from different parts of town, different cultures and beliefs, and different political perspectives. These programs discuss different topics that impact the people of our city. This year we’ll be combining Civil Discourse and Community Suppers, bringing different people together to break bread and barriers. We therefore introduce to you: “Breaking Bread & Barriers, Civil Discourse Community Suppers.”
Jacksonville is at its best when we’re united. Our new supper series, “Breaking Bread & Barriers,” will begin this October for a series of discussions around the theme, One Nation. OneJax. Using language from the Pledge of Allegiance as our guide, the four sessions will encourage participants to share respectful conversations around topics pertaining to the Pledge of Allegiance.
Thank you to our generous sponsors: HASKELL, Kimmie Winston, Mayo Clinic & The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida!
Sessions designed for participants to learn more about who they are, using the dimensions of diversity and identity as a framework. Workshops and discussion facilitation are designed to address identified needs — using a variety of strategies for learning and understanding in an engaging, thoughtful, and safe manner. OneJax has delivered and continues to deliver DEIB training and workshops to a variety of Jacksonville corporations, schools and nonprofits.
“Project Breakthrough: Changing the Story of Race in Jacksonville” seeks to raise awareness about the implications of structural racism in diverse populations and introduce a common framework for understanding the causes of racial disparities.
OneJax enjoys strong connections with several other Jacksonville nonprofits working in the interfaith and social justice space. Together, we provide access for all of our supporters to take advantage of each other’s learning and experiential events and activities. Our affiliations include 904WARD, Leadership Jacksonville, United Way of Northeast Florida, The Interfaith Center of Northeast Florida, The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, JASMYN, The Urban League, The Islamic Center of Northeast Florida, The Jewish Federation and Foundation of Northeast Florida and the YMCA of Northeast Florida, among others.
